With the poor

With the poor

While the world reserves its laughter, leniency, and warmth for the wealthy, the Prophet ﷺ extended genuine dignity to everyone — regardless of status, appearance, or smell. His relationship with Zahir, a plain-looking, rough-clothed Bedouin of no social standing, is a masterclass in human decency: he sought him out in a crowded marketplace, embraced him from behind, joked with him publicly, and when Zahir called himself "unmarketable," the Prophet ﷺ corrected him — "You are very precious to Allah." That single sentence did what no wealth ever could: it gave a poor man worth that the world had denied him. The deeper lesson is this — the poor rarely resent the rich for their money; they resent them for their coldness. A smile costs nothing, yet it can anchor a broken soul, earn a sincere night-time supplication, and pull divine mercy down from the heavens. Somewhere out there is a dishevelled, overlooked person whose prayers Allah answers every time — and how you treat him may determine how Allah treats you.
